Raised by wolves on the snowy prairie plains of the Canadian West, I began my career as a graphic and web designer in Calgary, AB. After a few years working as a local ranch-hand to various tech companies, in 1999 I was offered a job in New York City – which I have made my home base ever since.
In my experience who you are gets defined by what you do... and how you do it. Part of what I do is Creative Direction, Art Direction, Identity & Brand Development, Web Design & Development, Mobile Application Design, Broadcast Graphics & Animation, and Advertising & Print Design. But more importantly I provide distinctly creative solutions for my clients. I've worked directly with some of the world's largest advertising and interactive firms. I value uniqueness, innovation and quality above all other professional traits. And I love what I do. What you don't do counts equally. I don't work in a medium, I work into a concept. I don't agree all the time, or think the client is always right. I don't get bogged down by a pissy attitude. I don't take assignments just for the cash. And I don't take anything too personally, or too seriously (I hope you don’t either)... there are more important things than just work.
So build it up, break it down – re-think, re-brand, re-build, and re-interpret. Put it in the pot and mix it up. Throw it in the car, drive it out to the desert and see if it follows you home. Doing work that's just "good enough" is never good enough, and conventionality will slowly but surely kill you. |
