Who you are gets defined
by what you do. Part of what I do is take global brands
from concept to execution in both online and offline
projects. I have nine years of expertise in Creative
Direction, Art Direction, Identity & Brand Development,
Web Design & Development, Broadcast Graphics & Animation,
and Advertising & Print Design. I offer distinctive
creative solutions for clients such as Nextel, Comcast,
Calvin Klein, VH1, Snapple, Vogue, E*trade and
Bayer. I've worked directly with some of the world's
largest advertising and interactive firms – and
my work has been showcased in several design books,
magazines and websites.
What you don't do counts equally. I don't work in a medium, I work
into a concept. I don't consider work anything but play. I don't
agree all the time, or think the client is always right. I don't
get bogged down by a crappy attitude. I don't take assignments just
for the cash. And I don't take anything too personally... or too
seriously.
So build it up, break it down - re-think, re-brand, re-build, and
re-interpret. Put it in the pot and mix it up. Throw it in the car,
drive it out to the desert and see if it follows you home. Doing
work that's just "good enough" is never good enough, and conventionality
will slowly but surely kill you.

E*TRADE
Financial

prospect website
So about a year ago I took the Creative Director
job at E*TRADE. My boss and CMO quickly made
it clear that a new day was dawning at the company
and I would play a major role in updating the
strategy, architecture, design of etrade.com.
While this project took the better part of 8
months (virtually unheard of in the financial
services sector), it felt like we'd accomplished
the majority of it in just a few sleepless weeks.
The site features intuitive navigation to the
features , easy click-through demos of some of
our most popular products and tools, direct access
to account opening from every page and quick
access to our powerful quotes and research functionality.

HotJobs

super recruiter website & animations
This project included creation and illustration of the 2 "Super
Recruiter" characters, powers and gadgets, as well as a Flash
website to help tell the SR story and give information about HotJobs
products and services. An interactive animation sequence for the
HJ booth at the SHRM conference was also developed, where attendees
could have their photos taken, then their faces were super imposed
over the Super Recruiter characters and played over the 61" plasma
monitors all around the booth. This wacky, comic-book concept was
so well received that during the first day of the event, HotJobs
had gotten more qualified leads than they had during the whole SHRM
conference last year.

Comcast

hdtv website
After a very successful launch of the Comcast ON DEMAND website (see
below), I was asked to design and develop another engaging
and interactive programming guide for their HDTV content. With the
help of Flash kingpin and fellow "panther" Johnathan
Swafford we launched this new microsite in just under
a month. Now all Comcast has to do is get off their asses and start
filling it with content...

The
Benjamin

website homepage
redesign
Affinia asked me to redesign their very outdated website for The
Benjamin, a luxury hotel here in Manhattan. My main focus was to
bring the hotel's imagery to the forefront to help "paint the
picture" of what the experience is all about and to make the
user interface as intuitive as possible. I also moved a booking-engine
component right to the front page in order to meet their priority
of putting "heads in beds". I will begin overhauling the
rest of the site later this month as well as the Affinia Hospitality
site as well.
The client made me put the intro music in, even after I told him
how cheesy it was and threatened him with violence. Sometimes you
just can't win.

Fuse TV

internet animations
Here's a fun little project to do some cool online ads for Fuse.
These are very much brand focused, rather than pushing a program
or product. I love projects like this. You can just go nuts and let
your imagination flow. Conceptually I wanted to do a few over the
top fantasy-style environments that unfolded as the camera pans from
left to right. I got the idea for the "HELL YEAH" tag line
after a night out with the boys...

Saturday
Night Live

opening title sequence
I got a call from my friend Steve the night before this assignment
was due to the editors. He'd been through 15 different versions for
the 2004/2005 SNL opening title sequence and was getting no where
with the producers. So the next morning my partner in crime and I
went over to the studio and banged out 5 new versions. After a few
more hours of tinkering and final edits they picked my least favorite
execution - but hey, it's not my show.

HSBC

website & print campaign
I got the chance to work with HSBC after they had a very bad experience
with a large agency here in NYC. They had been getting milked for
months and finally decided to sever their relationship. Needless
to say I was feeling the heat to come up with something they would
love. HSBC needed a new website and corresponding marketing campaign
to promote their new Money Transfer service. The Target markets were
Brazilians, Indians and Mexicans living in the US and send money
home frequently. The client was so happy, she actually started to
cry. That was a first.

Aveda

super natural campaign
For this campaign, my concept was to keep the overall message and
direction as simple as the ingredients in Aveda's products. The phrase "super
natural" had two connotations I could play off - 1) that Aveda's
products worked like magic and 2) their products were void of unnatural
substances. The use of high contrast b&w photography helps promote
the idea of simplicity and purity, while the bright yellow block
font grabs attention.

Comcast

on demand website
For the past 2+ years I have been art directing and designing various
online advertising projects for Comcast. Our team came up with the
idea to build an engaging, interactive guide to showcase their ON
DEMAND programing. This monthly updated website features database
driven content, dynamically updated Flash elements, as well as design
that breaks away from old Comcast brand standards. We average 1000
unique hits a day since launch and it is a big hit with Comcast internally.

Bayer

website & television ads
2 different projects, 2 different clients, but these were both great
gigs. Art direction, design and front end development of the Bayer
global website. Design and animation of 2 Bayer Aspirin TV spots.
After the Bayer site launched, the TV ads seemed like a good opportunity.
Done in 3 days. Who said pharmaceutical companies were no fun?

Warbabies

internal project
There has been a lot of pro-war rhetoric here in the States lately,
I guess this is my reaction to all that. I am not an overly political
person but this idea came to me and I felt the need to express it
somehow. This is just a series of simple iconic statements on how
our government and the US media try to candy-coat what is really
happening in Iraq and Afghanistan, and how this administrations idea
of liberation seems to come in the form of destruction. Oooh baby,
it's a mad world.

Nextel

phone finder
Nextel was getting poor feedback from potential customers about how
complicated choosing a phone and rate plan on their existing website
was. So I came up with the Nextel Phone Finder. This dynamic Flash
application recommends phone and service packages based on a simple
interactive survey interface. Fun and easy to use, this idea helped
promote over a 12% lift in online handset sales in one month. The
response was so positive, I'm going to do two more for them.

Blue
Planet Research

corporate ID & website
Blue Planet Research and Technology is a newly formed mobile pollution
prevention and resource remediation systems company. Basically what
that means is they have these big trucks with pumps and filters that
can go to all the places around the world that are so messed up by
humans and make those areas habitable again. I wanted the site to
be very visual, but not overpower the content. I used simple Flash
animations to cycle through images of water and nature, as well as
give the site a pulse.
